Youth wrestling continues in Preston County

Eight Bearcubs place place within the top four

KINGWOOD – The Grafton Bearcub youth wrestling team traveled to Preston County with 14 wrestlers last Saturday.

The young Cubs braved the cold of Kingwood as eight of the 14 placed within the top four.

Logan Jones, Tucker Latta, Logan Shaver, Ian Glaspell, Brayton Davis and Brock Sturm all worked very hard over the weekend also, and continue improving their skills.

On Sunday, four Bearcub wrestlers returned to Preston County to compete in the Coalfield Conference Tournament.

The boys wrestled hard,  and gained some quality mat time but, no one from the Grafton club placed.

“Even though trophies are not handed out at coalfield conference tournaments, Christian Cox, Dylan Gutshall, Maverick Bartsch and Jayce Mapel all had a very good day of wrestling,” said Bearcub representative Christy Cox.

The Bearcubs will be off this coming weekend, but will then return to the mats on January 20 at the West Fairmont Open.

The Open will take place at the Fairmont Armory.
