Genesis 3: 1: Now the serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat of the fruit from any of the tree in the garden?” NLT
This verse shows us that the devil is a deceiver. When I was a kid, my friends and I all believed that a lady near where we lived was a witch and we were scared to go near her big, eerie old brick house. Later in high school when we studied Macbeth by Shakespeare, we read a spell given by the ugly witches stirring their cauldron that went this way; “Eye of Newt and toe of frog, wool of bat and tongue of dog, adder’s fork and blind worm’s sting, lizard’s leg and owlets wing…”
I suddenly remembered my childhood fear of an innocent old lady that we had bad mouthed all over our neighborhood. Tales of how we’d had narrow escapes from being captured by her. How we knew there were cauldrons full of dog tongues and bat wings. I remember feeling ashamed that day in the classroom. But, I also understood where a kid’s mind can go. They can make imagination blossom into reality.
This time of year, we get asked a lot about Halloween, and if people should celebrate it. My first answer is this, everyone has to work out their own salvation with fear and trembling. (Philippians 2: 12). But I can tell you this. We do not partake in any way, shape or form at our house. We will never have any party related to it at our church. It is positively a Satanic holiday. It is celebrated worldwide by witches and Satanists. I’ve lived in Europe and watched the hilltop bonfires burning all night long as witches danced and celebrated their holiday. I did not know the truth until I became a Christian. I lived in New England for many years and I know the reality of what occurs. We’ve also lived in bayou country in Louisiana and have seen the fear of many of the people of spells and hexes. It’s real folks.
My advice to you is to study the Bible. Find out what God says on this subject. He warns of these things, fortune telling, hypnosis, psychic readings, and many more.
Parents are concerned their kid’s lives will be harmed by not allowing them to partake in the dark festivities. Did you see this headline? “Thirty- thousand kids across the USA grew terribly ill because they weren’t allowed to dress up for Halloween.” Me either. Because it didn’t happen. If you are a Christian family you should teach your children to follow God’s guidelines. Kids are actually quite spiritual people if given a chance.
There was a witch in Massachusetts who sat at a bus stop across from our church and chanted spells against us during the service. I worked with girls in Louisiana who were terrified of voodoo curses and voodoo dolls. At times it seems as if we are living in the dark ages, which makes sense because where the things of the devil are rife there is always darkness.
So, as we approach this Halloween time, you can work out your own feelings on the subject, but before you make a decision, be sure and check out the Scriptures. Until next time!
