SOUTH WESTON—The Grafton High School wrestling team competed in the Big Ten wrestling championships this week end in Lewis County.
The Cats had an impressive showing, as they had one first-place finisher, three third-place finishers, two fifth-pace finishers and one sixth-place finisher.
Winning his first-ever Big Ten championship was senior Dillon Williams in the 152 pound weight class. D. Williams was a perfect 4-0 on the day, as he defeated Thomas from East Fairmont 11-5 in the Championship match.
Noah Allman (106), Noah Hodges (113) and Garrett Williams were the second-place finishers, as they all finished the day with 3-1 records.
The fifth-place finishers for GHS were Shawn Kelley (120) and Dalton Mayle (182), while freshman Eli Shumaker returned to GHS with a sixth-place finish.
Last weekend, the Bearcats wrestled in the Viking Smash in Petersburg. Noah Hodges and Eli Shumaker took first-place honors, while Dillon Williams placed second and Garrett Williams placed third.
The boys will be back in action next weekend, when they travel to Bridgeport High School for WV Regional II Championships and a chance to advance to the state championships in Huntington.
