West Virginia Drillers win Dinger Derby silver division

MORGANTOWN—The West Virginia Drillers U11 Baseball team played in the Dinger Derby baseball tournament last weekend at Mylan Park in Morgantown. The Drillers used some last minute heroics to walk away with a silver division championship.

On Sunday, the Drillers opened their day against the Elkins Lightning. The Drillers used a seven run second inning to defeat the Lightning 7 to 4.

The Drillers used a balanced attack as they recorded seven hits in the contest. The Drillers hits came from Isaac Lough, Rylan Rock, Danny Raddish, Mason Kisamore, Marc Biafore, Trevor Bigelow and Dustin Keener. The runs were scored by Lough, Rock, Raddish, Andrew Bell, Bigelow, Kisamore and Biafore.

The highlight of the second inning was a grand-slam off of the bat of Kisamore. This was his first homerun of his young career.

With that win the Drillers advanced to play in the silver division championship against the Parkersburg Swarm. This game was a shootout from the start as the Drillers put up six runs in the first two innings while the Swarm added five of their own.

The game went back and forth and the Drillers found themselves down 14 to 12 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. Isaac Lough led off the inning with a bunt down the third base line then advanced to second on a stolen base. Rylan Rock then smashed a double into left center field scoring Lough. That brought the winning run to the place as Danny Raddish took the batter’s box. Raddish wasted no time as he drove the first pitch over the left center fence given the Drillers a 15 to 14 victory.

The Drillers recorded 17 hits in the game. The hits came off the bats of Lough (3), Rock (3), Raddish (3), Bell (3), Bigelow (2), Kisamore, Biafore and Keener. The runs were scored by Lough (4), Rock (4), Raddish (3), Bell (2), Bigelow and Keener.

Andrew Bell also hit his fifth homerun of the season.

The Drillers used four pitchers to pick up the win. The pitchers included Rylan Rock, Trevor Bigelow, Dustin Keener and Andrew Bell.

The Drillers will be back in action on June 2, 3 and 4 as they will compete in the Fifth Annual Diamond Dual at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex.
