GRAFTON—Grafton High school football standout, Garrett Wellman, will be continuing his football career next fall, as he signed his letter-of-intent last week, to play football at Fairmont State University.
Wellman, who earned many post season honors, signed the letter outside the school gymnasium surrounded by family, coaches, administrators and friends.
Wellman was a team captain last season for the Bearcat football team, that went 5-4 to record their first winning season in several years. He has led the Cats from his quarterback position for the better part of his four years at GHS and will go down as one of the best passing quarterbacks in GHS history.
Wellman was all smiles as he signed his letter.
“I have really enjoyed playing football here at GHS,” said Wellman. “I have made friendships at GHS that I know will last a lifetime,” he added.
There were also several coaches on-hand for the signing including the head football coach, Rich Bord.
“Garrett has to be one of the better quarterbacks that has played here at GHS,” said GHS head coach Rich Bord. “He had the opportunity to play early in his career and has continued to grow into really good high school football player and a great young man.”
“We look forward to watching him play next year for the Falcons,” he added.
