GRAFTON—Bearcats Volleyball Junior Caroline Wellman was named to the Big 10 Conference Second-Team concluding the 2022 season. She would lead the team in Kills Per Set (1.7) and Aces (26).
Wellman totaled 65 Kills, which tied in team totals. She also finished in the top three in five other categories including second in Digs (86), Aces Per Set (0.7), Digs Per Set (2.3), and Hitting Percentage 0.082 PCT and finishing third in Receptions (86).
The impact this season had on Wellman was a growing experience. She noted that she learned how to work better in growing chemistry with her teammates with a new culture ensuing.
“There were a lot of seniors that left and freshman coming in, so it felt like a new team,” she voiced.
Wellman chose volleyball after her time doing gymnastics during her youth and the passion grew from there.
“I knew it was something I wanted to do for a long time,” she expressed.
Many of Wellman’s coaches and teammates would describe her as determined and a leader.
“I enjoy helping a lot, understanding my role in helping newcomers gaining their footing and offering moral support,” explained Wellman. “I give 110 percent and try as hard as I can. Even if its not perfect, you have to keep going.”
Acting as dual sport athlete, Wellman also participates in track during the spring, which she noted is a good way to prepare for volleyball.
Wellman plans to pursue a career in Psychology with an interest in Child Development in her future, also noting that coaching volleyball recreationally would be an option.
