VFW celebrates milestone birthdays

GRAFTON— The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3081 celebrated members at an annual celebration.

The VFW held a “Birthday” party on Sunday for veterans and auxiliary members who are 85 years and older.

The event was the fourth annual celebration. VFW post veterans and auxiliary members, as well as their guests were treated to dinner, cupcakes and entertainment.

Dinner was provided and served by the auxiliary and Tee’s Tasty Treats provided the cupcakes for the event.

A local band, called We Three Plus, provided entertainment to the guests. The band

specializes in turn of the century pre-bluegrass music.

Band member Chuck McClain introduced the band and said, “We are grateful to be here and play for you.”

Junior Vice Commander Dale Zinn and Auxiliary Treasurer Renee Taylor organized the event.

Zinn expressed, “We thought we should recognize them for all they have done, and everything they do for the post. Every year this celebration keeps growing. It is great to see everyone here.”

Taylor shared that she believes the event is a great way for the VFW to honor and thank post members, as well auxiliary members.

Veterans honored at the celebration were Ray Strader, Charles Bartlett, Charles Towner, Richard Warne, Tommy Matthews, Robert Knotts, Bob Rosier,

Willis Nestor, Woody Stout and Bill Freeze.

The auxiliary members honored were Cleda Bartlett, Helen Straurser, Mary Draughn, Mary Slaton, Helen Weekly, Clara Jean DeMoss, Darlene Haddix and Erma Riley.

“We’d again like to thank our birthday guys and gals, their guests and everyone who came out to help us celebrate their special day,” said Zinn.
