VFW Auxiliary donates needed items to Taylor County schools

TAYLOR COUNTY—With school in full swing one, local organization and business wanted to make sure the students in Taylor County have supplies and other essentials they need.

The Veterans of Foreign of Wars Memorial City Post 3081 Auxiliary made their rounds to all five schools in the county last week, to donate items to the students and staff.

Youth Chairman for the Auxiliary Linda Hart shared that every year, the auxiliary contacts the schools in the county to see what type of items they would need for students.

She disclosed that this year they, were able to provide $200 in items to each school in the county.

At Grafton High School, they bought tennis shoes and combination locks for students. At West Taylor Elementary School, they provided clothing and shoes.

At Anna Jarvis Elementary School and Taylor County Middle School, the auxiliary provided clothing to the students.

Principal Melissa Lampinen of Flemington Elementary School shared that the group provided items such as Clorox Wipes, tissues and other cleaning supplies at that location.

In addition, she revealed that they also purchased socks, notebooks and more for student use. 

“These donations to our school are very much appreciated,” expressed Lampinen. “Thank you, Polly Foreman, Linda Hart and the VFW Auxiliary for the donations to our school.”

The giving didn’t stop there, in addition last week, Leer Mine donated backpacks to all the students at Anna Jarvis Elementary School.

The red bags were embellished with the Anna Jarvis logo complete with Zeke the Mountaineer and filled with notebooks, folders, glues sticks, crayons and various other supplies for the students.

Assistant Principal Shelly Stead expressed that the students and the staff appreciated the generosity of Leer Mine.
