Tygart Golf Classic May 21

Play to benefit WV Caring Hospice, sponsorship opportunites available

KNOTTSVILLE—On Saturday, May 21, area golfers will have the opportunity to take to the green of Tygart Lake Public Golf Course for a good cause.

The Tygart Golf Classic will be held in support of the local, non-profit, hospice, WV Caring.

The four-man shot gun scramble format will cost a single player $65 to play, and a team of four may register at a cost of $260 for the 18-hole tournament.

Individual and team registration is available online at www.wvcaring.org or by calling 1-800-350-1161.

The day will kick off with 8:00 a.m. registration and a prompt 9:00 a.m. tee off.

The charity game will have teams of four take to the green each taking a turn at hitting the ball. The best drive is selected and then the team makes their next shots from where the ball drops.

Each teammate will continue to try to get closest to the pin until someone sinks a putt. The score is recorded before the team advances to the next hole, to do it all over again.

All players will receive snacks and refreshments throughout the day, with lunch and an award presentation to immediately follow.

“We will be presenting monetary awards for our first, second and third-place finishers,” she revealed. “There will also be awards for the teams who shot closest to the pin, had the longest drive and shot the longest putt. There will also be plenty of door prize opportunities.”

Golfers will also have a chance at a prize for a hole in one on designated tees.

Golf enthusiasts are highly encouraged to take part, as all proceeds will benefit WV Caring’s end-of-life care for the terminally ill and their families.

“A lot of people get out and play because of their love of the game,” said Cynthia Woodyard, WV Caring’s Vice President of Public Affairs and Access. “Why not golf to compete for prizes, while having fun and making a difference in the lives of your neighbors and friends who are seriously ill?”

In addition, sponsorships are available for local businesses, helping to promote their establishments while aiding those friends and neighbors who need hospice.
