GRAFTON—The Grafton High School girls basketball team played host to the Liberty Mountaineers last Monday night, at the Scotty Hamilton Gymnasium.
The Cats would have one of their best starts of the season, as five different players found their way in the score book in the first quarter. After just eight minutes of play the Cats held an impressive 11 point lead.
The Cats would go on to win the second quarter 13—4, the third quarter 15—2 and inch by in the final quarter 12—11. The final score of the contest was GHS 58, LHS 24.
Bailey Toothman led the Cats with 12 points and 14 rebounds against the Mountaineers. She was followed by Meredith Maier with 10 points.
The remaining points were scored by Bria Jacobs (9), Alyssa Satterfield (8), Megan Kisner (8), Tori Jackson (5), Maggie Dunham (3), Mia Chambers (2) and Hailey Skiles (1).
“Last game we had no passion, no energy,” said veteran head coach Andrew Moore. “I thought we did that tonight, as we came out of the locker room with some fire and energy.”
“All they girls played good tonight, but I thought Bailey (Toothman) had one of her best games of the season, as she had 14 rebounds in the contest,” Moore added.
The GHS JV team was also victorious as they won 49—15.
The GHS points were scored by Sydney Friend (11), Amber Smith (7), Maggie Dunham (7), Tehya Hern (6), Hailey Skiles (6), Maddie Summers (4), McKenzie Mayle (4), Kenna Delaney (2) and Mia Chambers (2).
