TAYLOR COUNTY— After their first session was canceled due to weather, Tygart Lake Public Golf Course (TLPGC) was finally able to host their free golf lesson night for the county’s youth on Tuesday, June 29 and saw much success with the event.
According to course owner and event organizer Todd Williams, the evening saw nearly 30 participants ranging from ages five to 14, take to the greens to learn the basics of golf from some of the areas most seasoned golfers including himself, Christopher Miller, Adam Ware, Matt Allen and Lucas Ware.
Williams also noted that he believes the heat on Tuesday kept some folks from taking part and expects to see a spike in attendance next week.
The free lessons, which will teach attendees short and long game instruction and will provide the opportunity for them to play the course are offered every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Any child between the ages of five and 14 is welcome to attend, however, it is encouraged that a guardian also be present.
The lessons were originally set to conclude on July 13, but because of the early cancelation, Williams shared that he has added a supplemental lesson, now ending the course on July 20 instead.
“We’re hoping to see enough interest in the youth league to make it an annual event, or even expand it into something more permanent,” Williams said. “Be sure to bring your kids out and let us share our love of the game with them!”
