TCMS XC shines bright at Knight Night Relay

KINGWOOD— The Taylor County Middle School (TCMS) Cross Country program’s season got underway late Friday night, with a special after dark meet. 

The Knights Night Relay took place at Preston County High School and had runners navigating their way through a 1.5-mile course that was lined and lit with torches, in a relay style event with teammates passing off glowsticks.

The Knights were divided into three relay teams, A, B and C. 

Lady Knights Sophia Austin (A), Ciarra Spring (B) and Jordan Cox (C) would be the first to take off as fireworks exploded in the sky signaling the start of the race. And it was Austin who led the TCMS ladies, coming in with an outstanding time of 10:49. 

While Austin led Relay Team A, the group was anchored by Kenna Keener, finishing with a time of 11:24. 

Natalee Cartwright (11:33) and Natalie Beltner (13:15) were also members of Relay A. The team combined for a total time of 47:03, placing them 11th out of 37. 

Austin’s impressive performance placed her individually at 14th among 164 competitors. Meanwhile, Keener came in at 32nd and Cartwright finished 40th. 

The Lady Knights on Relay B, Spring (12:30), Ali Wilfong (16:38), Ainsley Alexander (15:40) and Addison Sole (12:27) landed in a 32nd place with a combined time of 57:16. 

The boys were next to take to the trail and in a display of heart and hustle the Knights Relay Team A earned an 8th place finish out of 45. 

The group was led my Colson Annon who dominated the course recording a finishing time of 9:24. The relay team was anchored by Braden Neighbor who came in with a time of 10:14. 

Isaac Young (10:59) and Owen Nestor (10:43) were also members of Relay A and contributed to the group’s combined finishing time of 41:22.

The Knight Relay B squad had a good showing as well, coming in at a respectable 21st place finish with a combine time of 44:50. 

The B relay was led by Greyson Ramezon, who completed the course in 10:36, while fellow B team runners, Mason Gray recorded a time of 10:59 and Maverick Bartsch came in with a time of 11:31. 

Anchoring Relay B for the Knights was sixth grader Chase Maier, with a time of 11:31. 

Individually for the boys, Annon excelled placing 11th out of 209 runners. 

The Knights won’t have another meet until Wednesday, September 8 when they host their home meet at West Taylor Elementary School.
