TCMS matchup with BUMS called after the fourth

Lady Knights still adjusting to being young in the circle

GRAFTON The Taylor County Middle School (TCMS) Lady Knights softball program hosted the Lady Bucs of Buckhannon Middle School on Monday.

The Lady Knights would face a bevy of big hitters with the Lady Bucs set to tee off against the Lady Knights’ rookie pitchers in a display that would end the game early.

The first half of the opening  inning would be a challenge for the  Lady Knights’ defense, as the Lady Bucs put them to the  test scoring eight unanswered runs.

Lady Knights’ first baseman Isabella Hayhurst pulled down an Alexandria Hamer pop up to bring the top half of a long first inning to a close.

The Lady Knights first try at some offense would have returning shortstop Ruth Horne hit a dribble up the middle, which would cause the Lady Bucs second basemen to bobble the ball and land Horne safely at first.

After a succession of steals by Horne, she would make her way to third and score on a wild pitch by the Lady Bucs hurler that would score one of the only four runs on the night.

The rest of the game would play out as the first inning with the superior pitching of the Lady Bucs and their heavy-handed bats would seal the fate of the fledgling Lady Knights with the game called in the bottom of the fourth with a final score of 17-4.

“We have a young team, especially at the pitcher location. We are having these long innings and they just suck the life out of your tea,.” stated head coach Chase Setler.

“We just need to concentrate on doing the little things right and the rest will fall into place,” he added.

The TCMS Lady Knights were back in back ation Tuesday, March 29 hosting the Bridgeport Lady Braves. Results from this matchup will be featured in an upcoming edition.
