TCMS Lady Knight gearing up for a great season of bball

PRUNTYTOWN—The TCMS Lady Knights basketball program welcomes back head coach Robbie Jacobs for his second season at the school, and Jacobs will have many experienced players at his disposal for the 2019-20 campaign.

The current Lady Knights’ roster includes ten 8th graders, four 7th graders, and five 6th graders. The 8th graders include Caitlyn Boylen, Kambree Delaney, Jerra Halbritter, Robbi Jacobs, Emma Johnson, Jodi Keene, Natalie Kelley, Kelsey Massie, Ally Mayle, and Tayler Rudy. 7th graders include Amidy Cook, Lillie Crimm, Anna Harbison, and Macy Johnson. 6th graders include Sophia Austin, Ashlynne Bolyard, Alyssa Jackson, Kenna Keener, and Caroline Stead.

“Last year, we were very young, returning zero varsity players,” said Jacobs, who came to TCMS after coaching in the AAU circuit at various locations along the east coast. “It was more or less a rebuilding year. This season, we have the talent and experience to be competitive enough to be in every game, regardless of who we’re playing. I expect us to win a majority of our games. It should be a lot more fun for the kids now.”

Assisting Jacobs this season will be Coach Lorraine Isner. In addition to leading the Lady Bearcats’ soccer program, Isner will be helping out Jacobs on the varsity level and directing the Lady Knights’ junior varsity program as well.

“Lorraine is very knowledgeable and a good coach,” express Jacobs. “She is great with the kids, and I really appreciate her help.”

The Lady Knights scrimmaged Doddridge County Middle School this past Friday in West Union, and although Jacobs was concerned about his team’s execution during the game due to not liking what he had seen in practice leading up to the contest, he was nonetheless pleased with the outcome.

“We played a lot better than we practiced,” Jacobs explained. “Then in warmups, Doddridge County passed the eye test and I expected a real challenge. We handled them comfortably and when we went up ten, I was able to get quite a few of my JV players into the game.”

The Lady Knights will open their regular season on Thursday, December 5th at home against East Fairmont at 6:00pm. The JV’s will play first and then the varsity game will follow.

They will then have four more home games in December before their first road trip, a January 6th away contest at Westwood Middle School in Morgantown.
