TCMS Knights take down Mountaineers

PRUNTYTOWN—After starting off slowly in their recent matchup against Mountaineer Middle School, the Taylor County Middle School football team finally exploded, scoring 48 points while holding the Mountain Lions scoreless in a 48-0 rout at Liberty High School on Wednesday.

“We were flat at the start of the game and it looked like we were just going through the motions at times,” said a frustrated TCMS head coach Bobby Beltner.

Things would quickly change, however, as TCMS running back Charles Hoskins had a breakout performance for the Knights, doing a little bit of everything for his team on both sides of the ball.

Hoskins rushed for 116 yards and three touchdowns on only 4 carries (one of which on a spectacular 70-yard run in the 3rd quarter), while scoring another touchdown on a 3-yard pass from quarterback Isaac Lough.

Hoskins also returned a fumble recovery for a touchdown in the 1st quarter to give the Knights a 7-0 lead which they would never surrender. Hoskins would finish the contest with five touchdowns to his credit.

Also assisting in the Knights’ rout was standout running back Kenny Humphries, who added 83 yards on 7 carries with a touchdown, as well as athlete Isaiah Vanscoy who provided 78 yards rushing on just four carries.

Adam Haden also had a fantastic game, chipping in 54 yards on four carries and adding a touchdown as well.

On defense, Hoskins continued to impress, notching a total of eight tackles and returning one of those for a touchdown off of a fumble recovery.

Humphries matched Hoskins’ total with eight of his own, while Haden was just behind them with seven tackles.

Isaiah Vanscoy, Dominic Dinkenberger, Landon Miller, and Alex Starcher all added two tackles, while Treyson Nose, Max Bracero, and Mason Dunham were also credited with a tackle.

Lough and Eli Streets were credited with tackles which also included fumble recoveries.

“There were several bright spots today, and some kids stepped up and earned some playing time going forward,” stated a pleased Beltner.

The Knights will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Bridgeport Middle School for a match-up of unbeaten teams.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
