GRAFTON—The Taylor County Middle School (TCMS) Knights Soccer team hosted the Washington Irving (WI) Middle School Hilltoppers this week in Grafton.
The Knights took to McKinney Field to try and even the series with WI. It was a defensive battle from the get-go with lots of back-and-forth play.
“I felt the boys came to play tonight as they were stepping to the ball and making some really good touches” voiced Head Coach Travis Uhl.
Noah Foley suffered a pulled muscle early in the game which would go on to affect how the Knights lined up going forward.
The Knights were supported by the boys coming off the bench and did a good job stepping up and contributing.
WI scored their only goal of the game around 20 minutes into the first half, when the Hilltopper’s midfielder received a pass in the box, and with great numbers, made a play to sneak it past the TCMS keeper.
The final score would be Hilltoppers 1, Knights 0.
“The Hilltoppers’ coach and players complimented us on our team defense,” revealed Coach Uhl. “Stand out player Bryce Kelley was specifically mentioned as being tough to beat.”
Kelley would finish the game with 5 intercepts and 3 steals.
“Brayden Bailey and Cameron Gray did an excellent job for us in the midfield and Tyler Clemm Finished with four saves” voiced coach Uhl.
The Knights travel to East Fairmont to take on the Bees next week.
