TCMS Knights Soccer falls to experienced RL Bland team

WESTON—The Taylor County Middle School (TCMS) Knights Soccer team traveled to Weston on Wednesday to take on the Patriots of Robert L. (RL) Bland Middle School.

The experienced RL Bland team kept control of the ball and set the pace in the first half of the game, forcing the Knights to play on their heels. But in true TCMS spirit, the Knights would not back down from the fight.

The Knights held strong until the 20-minute mark, when a Patriot forward was able to maneuver past the Knights defense and placed the ball into the net, putting the Patriots up 1-0 in the contest.

Determined to see success in the game, the Knights held the Patriots scoreless for the remainder of the half, entering halftime with a one-point deficit.

RL Bland would be quick to find the net during the second half, with a goal just five minutes into play. On the initial attempt, Keeper Braydon Taylor made a nice save, but the Patriots were quick on the rebound, bringing the score to 2-0.

“We just weren’t able to find our groove, as the Patriots continued to apply pressure,” said Head Coach Ryan Stallings.

The Knights would allow the Patriots to score two more goals in the contest, one at the 13-minute mark and another 10 minutes later, lengthening the RL Bland lead to 4-0.

“Braydon finished with a total of 20 saves during the contest, which helped keep the score at only four Patriot goals,” Stallings noted. “It’s not the outcome we were hoping for, but we will use what we learned in this game to strengthen us going forward.”

The Knights will be back in action on Monday, when they take on West Fairmont in a road contest. The game is set to being at approximately 7:30 p.m.
