TCMS Knights fall to Belington


BELINGTON—The Taylor County Middle School boys basketball team made the 45 minute voyage to Belington,, last Tuesday night to battle the Hawks of Belington Middle School. The Knights fought hard but in the end the Hawks were too much as they went on to win 30 to 27.

The Hawks and Knights had trouble finding the goal in the first quarter as both teams recorded seven points in the book. The second proved more of the same as neither team could get their offense to spark. At the half the Hawks held a two point lead over the Knights.

The Knights fought back in the third as they outscored the Hawks 9 to 6. The final quarter proved to be the difference in the game as the top scorers for TCMS fouled out of the contest. The Knights were outscored in the fourth 8 to 4 to end the contest.

Ryan Maier led the Knights with 11 points in the contest. The rest of the TCMS points came from Justin Spiker (6), Andrew Irvine (6), Tanner Moats (2) and James Hoskins (2).

In the first contest of the day, the JV Knights defeated the Hawks 43 to 24.

Jacob Maier led the young Knights with 10 points followed by Isaac Lough and Cole Mooney with nine points apiece. The remaining points came from JT Veltri (7), Harrison Maier (2), Isaiah Vanscoy (2), Ben Louzy (2) and Garrett Hutson (2).

The TCMS boys will be in action tonight at East Fairmont. The JV game will begin at 5:00 p.m., with the varsity game to follow.
