TCMS Kights sports teams continue to impress

FOOTBALL – The Taylor County Middle School football team improved their season record to 4 and 2 last Wednesday night with a dominating win over Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School. The Knights used a very impressive ground attack to pull away with a 46 to 12 victory.

The Knights were first to score as James Hoskins sprinted his way in from 22 yards out and Tanner Moats added the two point conversion to put the Knights up 8 to 0. Hoskins scored the next touchdown for the Knights as he returned a kick-off 69 yards to increase the Knights lead.

Hoskins then scored the next two touchdowns for TCMS with the first one coming on a 4-yard run and the second was a 40-yard reception from Moats.

Brayden McCullough closed out the third quarter for the Knight with a 31-yard run to put the Knights up 33-12.

The Knights closed out the scoring in the fourth quarter as Hoskins scored his fifth touchdown of the game this time on a 35-yard run then Justin Spiker added a 15-yard TD run to add to the Knights total.

Hoskins led the rushing attack for the Knights as he had 8 carries for 104 yards followed by McCullough with one carry for 31 yards. The remaining rushers for TCMS were Eli Shumaker (4-20), Moats (2-5), DJ Seese (4-22), Spiker (2-30) and Cole Mooney (1-(-5)).

In the air Moats was 4 of 8 for 108 yards and one touchdown.

Braden Butcher led the receivers with 2 catches for 44 yards followed by Hoskins (1-40) and Kaden Delaney (1-24).

“The boys did a great job,” said head coach Michael Johnson. “They responded the right way after we challenged them as a coaching staff after our Bridgeport game last week.  It was a great all around team effort against a good football team. We executed in all three phases of the game.  All the credit goes to the boys and their hard work and execution. As a staff we are really proud of them. It’s the best all around game we have played all year,” he added.

The Knights will be back in action on Wednesday night as they host Lincoln at 7:00 pm at McKinney Field. This will be the last home game for the Knights.

VOLLEYBALL – The TCMS volleyball team was back in action last Thursday night as they traveled to Weston to take on the Patriots of RL Bland. The varsity Knights won 25-20 and 25-9 and the Knight JV’s also won 25-17 and 25-11. The girls next game is scheduled for the home contest against this same RL Bland team. The game first serve will be on Tuesday at 5:30 pm.

GIRLS SOCCER – The TCMS girls played their first game last week in Weston against RL Bland. The girls played hard and ended the game with a 0 to 0 tie.

The girls then earned their second win of the season on Thursday night in a home contest against Lincoln. The Knights defeated Lincoln 2 to 0 behind goals from Addie Tucker and Emma Fridley. Lillie Singleton was credited with the assist on the Fridley goal.

The girls will be back in action on Thursday at home against Elkins. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm.

BOYS SOCCER – The TCMS boys soccer team earned another win on the season last Tuesday night against the Patriots of RL Bland. The Knights ran away with a 4 to 0 victory.

The Knights will be back in action on Thursday night as they host Elkins. The game is set to begin at 7:30 pm at McKinney Field.
