TCMS hits the hardwood against West Fairmont and Belington

PRUNTYTOWN—Both of the TCMS basketball teams were back in action this past week, starting with games against West Fairmont Middle School on Wednesday. The boys traveled to Fairmont while the girls hosted the Cubs at home in rematches of games from just the week prior.

Starting with the boys’ JV game, the Knights would drop that contest by the score of 58-21 as Kenny Humphries scored six points for the Knights, followed by Gavin Hess and Adrian Joyce, each with five. Also finding the scoring column were Cody Cook (2), Austin Mayle (2), and MJ Niggemyer (1).

In the varsity matchup, the Knights would score quite a bit of points but have a hard time stopping the Cubs’ offense in West Fairmont’s 65-29 victory. Isaiah Vanscoy led the Knights with eight points, followed by Dustin Keener (6), Michael Gaines (5), Jacob Maier (3), Kenny Humphries (3), Mason Dunham (2), and Harrison Maier (2).

The next evening, the boys’ team would host Belington and in the JV matchup, the Knights would roll to a dominant 42-7 performance. The Knights were led by Kenny Humphries with 10 points, while Ethan Dotson chipped in five. They were followed by Kaden Keener (4), Mason Markley (4), Cam Foley (4), Troy Weber (4), Adrian Joyce (3), Gavin Hess (3), Cody Cook (2), MJ Niggemyer (2), and McCray Blackwell (1).

In varsity action, there was plenty of scoring to go around as the Knights prevailed again, this time by the score of 77-42.

Twelve Knights were able to get into the scoring column with three hitting double digits against the Hawks. Jacob and Harrison Maier each scored 15 points, followed by Isaiah Vanscoy’s 10. Rounding out the scoring were Isaac Lough (8), Kenny Humphries (8), Dustin Keener (6), Mason Dunham (5), Michael Gaines (2), Mason Markley (2), Cody Cook (2), and Cam Foley (2).

On the girls’ side, both the JV and varsity squads had games scheduled at home against West Fairmont, while only the varsity had a game scheduled at Belington the next day.

Against the Cubs on Wednesday, the Lady Knights JV squad hit the floor first and dropped a tough 28-21 contest in OT. Although the score was close throughout, turnovers and missed shots ultimately doomed TCMS in the loss.

In the varsity contest, the Lady Knights rolled to a solid 27-8 victory. Kambree Delaney led the Knights on offense with eight points, followed by Jodi Keene and Ally Mayle, each with six.

The very next day while the boys’ team was hosting Belington, the Lady Knights would travel to Belington for a varsity-only matchup.

Belington came prepared and fought their way to a 43-28 win over TCMS after leading the Lady Knights by nine at halftime.

Ally Mayle would score 13 points in the contest, while Jodi Keene chipped in eight. Keene would also pull down nine rebounds, while guard Robbi Jacobs would also grab four boards.

Both the boys’ and girls’ squads will be back in action on Tuesday for their regular-season finale against Lincoln Middle School at TCMS.

The Lady Knights are scheduled to tipoff at 6:00pm while the Knights will begin play at approximately 7:15pm.

It will be “8th Grade Night” so please come out and support your team in their last game of the season!
