BARRACKVILLE—As the three-week summer live period for West Virginia high school athletics comes to a close, the Taylor County Middle School Knights basketball team snuck in one last event on Saturday, in the hot summer sun on the outskirts of Fairmont.
Coach Jonathan Curran took his squad to Barrackville Middle School to participate in the “Battle of the Blacktop,” a fun event sponsored by head coach Gary Lanham of the host team.
Also joining Taylor County and Barrackville was St. Francis of Morgantown.
“This was a great event put on by Coach Lanham of Barrackville,” Curran said. “We decided to end our three-week period with some streetball.”
While keeping the score isn’t a huge concern for the coaches at these types of events, Curran went on to state that he was pleased with his team’s all-around effort.
“I thought our guys played really well. Mason Dunham, Harrison Maier, Jacob Maier, and Isaiah Vanscoy all showed up and played excellent,” he expressed. “It’s always a good experience for our players to play in some games with limited organization because we are going to make mistakes. We just need to correct them and get hopefully get better.”
