Taylor County fair queen named

TAYLOR COUNTY—The Taylor County Fair Board is excited to announce that, although the annual Taylor County Fair Calico Pageant was put on hold this year, they have crowned a queen.

In a long-standing tradition, each year, hopeful ladies take to the stage at the Taylor County Fair vying for their chance to claim the coveted Taylor County Calico Queen crown. However, the pandemic caused the annual pageant to be put on hold, followed by a search for a coordinator that would lead the contest into the future.

And while the fair board has finally found the perfect person to hold the title of pageant coordinator, the pageant was placed on hold once again. However, they have high hopes for the 2023 event.

“We were in talks with a new pageant coordinator, who has some really great ideas about brining full pageants back to our fair,” explained Taylor County Fair Board Secretary Julie Royce. “Unfortunately, she could not start this year, but it is our goal to bring her on board for the 2023 fair.”

“Naming a Calico Queen is a tradition we wanted to continue, and knowing that the show must go on, we came up with another solution to selecting a queen,” she disclosed.

Because agriculture is such a huge focus of the Taylor County fair, the board thought it fitting to have a calico queen who represents just that.

“We approached the head of the Taylor County Future Farmers of America (FFA) and ask him to select a queen who he felt would be a great representative for the organization and for our fair,” Royce revealed.

After some deliberation, a new queen was named.

The Taylor County Fair Board and Taylor County chapter of the FFA are pleased to announce that Miss Olivia Shaver has been honored as the 2022 Calico Queen.

Shaver is a 2021 graduate of Grafton High School, where she served as a four-year member of the FFA, earning a state degree. She currently attends Pierpont Career and Technical College, where she is working to obtain an associate degree in Welding Technology.

Congratulations, Olivia on being bestowed the honor of the 2022 Calico Queen.
