GRAFTON— As a way to keep not only youths in the area engaged in physical activity through the summer, but to encourage adults to get moving, as well, Grafton High School girls basketball coach Andrew Moore has coordinated an event for the whole community to enjoy.
Grab some friends and get ready for some friendly competition with the first-ever Take it to the Hoop three-on- three summer tournament series.
Through the series, individuals can form their own teams, with contests for ten age brackets.
Available brackets are as follows: boys second-third grade, fourth-sixth grade, seventh-eighth grade and nineth-12 grade. There will be a separate brackets following the same age grouping for girls.
And the fun isn’t just for the young ones. Adults will also have the chance to show off their skills with adult female and adult male categories, as well.
According to Moore, each contest will last until a team has scored 21 points, or until 20 minutes of play have passed.
There are three opportunities to hit the Fetterman courts and earn bragging rights over your buddies.
The first tournament is slated or June 26. The registration deadline for the first event is June 23.
Another will be held on July 31,with a registration deadline of July 28, and the final event in the series is scheduled for August 21, with the cutoff to sign up being August 18.
Teams may choose to play in all three or just one. The cost to participate is $15 per player, per tournament.
During each of the three tournament days, the youngest teams will get things started. Times are to be announced, and each team is guaranteed to play two games, double elimination style.
Moore noted that once all teams are registered, a finalized schedule will be sent out to contestants.
Small concessions will also be offered at the tournament, and according to Moore, this is a great way for the community to take advantage of the recent upgrades that city has conducted at the Fetterman Park basketball courts.
Whether coming out as a spectator, or lacing up your sneakers to hit the court, there is sure to be community fun to be had for all.
“I hope to make this an annual event, and I am looking forward to seeing kids and adults playing on the blacktop of Fetterman,” Moore voiced.
