Sylvia Dare Knotts

Sylvia Dare Knotts, 79, of Knottsville, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.  

She was born in Taylor County on November 28, 1942, a daughter of the late Samuel and Flora Belle (Hinkle) Summers.  

Sylvia is survived by her husband of 62 years, Richard Clinton Knotts.

In addition to her husband, Sylvia is survived by seven children: Richard Lee Knotts (companion Maria Hettinger) of Newburg, Carolyn Diane Sheme (Kirk) of Knottsville, Karen Sue Tichnell (Randy) of Newburg, Jeff Clinton Knotts (Shelia) of Knottsville, Jeanie Conner (Tom) of Knottsville, Angie Mayle (Rick) of Knottsville, and Julie McCloy (companion Ralphie McCloy) of Grafton; one brother, Dave Summers of Grafton; 28 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great on the way.  Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by two siblings: Floyd Summers and Wilma Riddle.

Mrs. Knotts previously worked for the Taylor County Board of Education as a substitute cook, and later at Musgrove’s Feed Store.  She was a mother to seven, but also was a mother to many other neighborhood children over the years.  Sylvia was a hard worker always doing her part on the family farm, raising cattle, bailing hay, and whatever else needed done.  She enjoyed gardening and canning.  She loved taking care of her loved ones and cooking for them, no one ever went away hungry.  Cooking out and having fish fries for everyone was her favorite.  Sylvia also enjoyed taking trips to the Meadows casino when she was able.  

Family and friends will be received at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home 950 George Washington Hwy Grafton, WV, on Friday, August 26, 2022, from 4:00-8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will follow on the Knotts family property.
