Swimming Bearcats compete in Rotary Holiday Invitational


CLARKSBURG—The Grafton High School swim team competed in their first invitational this season, as they swam in Rotary Holiday Invitational, at the YMCA in Clarksburg.

The Cats swam against teams from Bridgeport, Elkins, Fairmont Senior, Robert C Byrd, Buckhannon-Upshur, Notre Dame, Philip Barbour, North Marion, East Fairmont, Lincoln and Liberty Harrison.

The GHS girls had good performances from their veterans on their way to an eight place team finish, while the boys finished in ninth place.

Payton England was the top swimmer for the Cats, as she placed seventh in the 50-yard free and ninth place in the 100-yard free, while Natalie Satterfield placed ninth in the 50-yard free.

Calvin Wise led the boys team with a seventh place finish in the 200-yard free, while Luke Nibert placed eighth in the 50-free and eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The next event for the GHS swimmers will be this Saturday in Wheeling, as the boys and girls will swim in the Jingle Bell Invitational. The meet will begin Saturday morning at Wheeling Jesuit.
