Shumaker wins Most Outstanding Wrestler


FAIRMONT -- The Taylor County Middle School Knights had a strong performance at the Mason Dixon Conference tournament on Saturday. The Knights finished ninth in a field of 20 teams. 

Eli Shumaker went 4-0 in the 123 pound division with all wins coming from pins. Shumaker recorded a final season record of 35-1 taking first place and winning the Most Outstanding Wrestler award.   

Jeremiah King at 135 lbs. went 3-1 on the day with a final season record of 32-3 finishing in second place.  Brayden Palmer at 84 lbs went 4-1 on the day with a final season record of 26-10, finishing in third place.  Dylan Blake at 155 lbs. went 3-1 on the day with a final season record of 32-4 finishing in third place. 

The others who wrestled at the tournament were as follows:  Will Angus at 95 lbs. went 0-2 for the day with a final season record of 15-15; Aiden Sheme at 110 lbs. went 0-2 for the day with a final season record of 14-20; Randy Harris at 128 lbs. went 1-2 for the day with a final season record of 3-11; Hunter Stanley at 171 lbs. went 2-2 for the day with a final season record of 15-16; Autumn Knotts at 190 lbs. went 1-2 for the day with a final season record of 16-17. 

The following wrestlers did not participate in the tournament on Saturday but contributed to the team’s performance for the year:  Nile Audia at 145 lbs. with a final season record of 7-15; David Conrad at 190 lbs. with a final season record of 0-4; and Chris Lytle at 190 lbs. with a final season record of 2-3.

“It’s been a great season and I wish all of the 8th graders good luck in high school and hopes o see the under classmen back next season,” concluded head Coach Ed Moore.

With the conclusion of the Mason Dixon, middle school wrestling will be over for the 2017-2018 season.
