Pastor Babbitt’s ministry welcomes residents to come as you are

TAYLOR COUNTY—A new church has opened its doors and is welcoming individuals to come as they are.

Just As You Are Ministries was established in August 2000, and since that time, the church has been welcoming residents to come and gain a closer relationship with God.

“It was through my personal experiences in life that I felt the call of God to organize this ministry,” said Pastor Shawn Babbitt.

He shared that he was raised in a split family and that life was seldom easy for him.

“I never saw family love as it should be,” he voiced. “I only saw deception, bitterness and anger.”

With an internal need to find acceptance and love, Babbitt felt a call on his life to join the ministry. He said he truly believes that God has a plan for everyone, and we must find out what that is and act on it.

“God called me to the ministry at a young age, and I accepted. Circumstances in my life allowed me to realize that God loves us just as we are. Even when we are in the trials and tribulations, he loves us and is there,” Babbitt voiced.

He described instances in his life where he could have given up on his faith, but he chose to push forward, including car accidents and losses.

“I became very angry toward God, and even attempted suicide three times in my life, but He always spared me,” Babbitt revealed. “Because of my life’s circumstances, I have always had a deep compassion to help the less fortunate or those who feel they have been overlooked or left out.”

And even when the odds seemed stacked against him, Babbitt said that God was always there to reassure him that even in a broken and shattered state, he was loved, just as he was.

That thought is what fueled his desire to create a space that would be all inclusive, and Just As You Are Ministries was born.

“God loves us for us. Not for what others think of us. We matter to Him,” Babbit voiced. “I want to show God’s love and compassion to those who are hurting or make them feel they are important.”

He added, “Everyone is welcome to come and share our love and fellowship, as we are planning great things in the future.”

As You Are Ministries is located at 110 Pearl Street, behind the Grafton WIC Office. Services are held Sunday mornings beginning at 10:00 a.m. and on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m.

He shared that youths are invited to attend classes on Sundays, and guests can enjoy Come and Dine Fellowship, an offering of snacks and drinks, before services.

And with the Easter holiday upon them, As You Are Ministries will be offering a Sunrise Service at 7:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday, followed by a breakfast from 8:00-9:00 a.m., a normal service at 10:00 a.m. and an Easter egg hunt following.

“We will have prayer available for anyone, and to make things even easier for residents in need, we will provide transportation in the area if needed,” noted Babbitt. “We are so excited to be in Grafton to present God’s word to those in need.”
