MORGANTOWN—To help spread her love of the sport, professional MMA and Muay Thai fighter Natalie “Kill Face” Morgan, a Grafton native who fights out of “The Yard” Muay Thai gymnasium in Los Angeles, California, will be hosting a seminar in neighboring Morgantown.
What started as a way to stay get back in shape and take out some of her daily frustrations in a unique way, Morgan quickly made a name for herself in the Muay Thai ring, and she hopes to help fighting enthusiasts do the same.
“This sport has done so much for me,” Morgan said. “I’ve learned many things about myself not only as a fighter but as a person.”
The title-winning fighter will be making her way to Morgantown on Saturday, June 19 to host a Muay Thai seminar at the Fight Society Muay Thai Gym, located at 297 Don Knotts Boulevard.
Morgan will put participants through a workout, focusing on basic training techniques from 10:00 a.m. until noon, with a barbeque to follow.
The event is open to the public. The price of admission is $25 per person.
Morgan hopes that anyone interested in the sport will come out to see if it’s a fit. After all, she herself fell in love with Muay Thai after her first class.
“After the first intense and sweaty session, I was completely hooked, and within six months, I began training at The Yard Muay Thai,” she explained. “It was here that I tried sparring in hopeful preparation for my first fight.”
Under the instruction of trainer Mark Komuro, she sought out to make a name for herself, and she did just that. Morgan noted that her first fight was a success and fueled her desire for more.
For years she has competed, first as an amateur, where she claimed titles including 2013 Super Flyweight C.U.M.T.A. CA State Champion, 2013 IMTF National Featherweight Champion, 2014/2015 IMTF National Super Flyweight Champion (One Defense, 2015 IFS CA Atomweight Champion and 2015 IKF Atomweight Amateur Muay Thai World Champion.
She then moved into the professional realm of Muay Thai, where she in 2017 was named Awakening Female Muay Thai Awards Community’s KO/TKO of the Year and the Awakening Female Muay Thai Awards KO/TKO of the Year, for an awesome spinning back elbow that knocked out opponent Sun Jing.
Morgan has gone on to claim the 2017 Muay Thai Angels Featherweight 3rd Runner Up title, along with the 2019 WBC National Featherweight Champion belt.
“Since I’ve started, the sport has completely transformed my life. I’ve learned many things about myself, not only as fighter but as a person. I’ve also met some of the most amazing people who have become a part of my family, and I’ve even traveled the world doing what I love,” Morgan expressed. “I believe in leading by action and inspiring everyone to become the best version of themselves they can be!”
