MORGANTOWN—The West Virginia University (WVU) Mountaineers will travel to Portland, Oregon on Thursday November 24, and compete against the Purdue Boilermakers in the Phil Knight 85 Legacy Tournament, tip-off slated for 10:00 p.m.
The tournament will consist of other matchups including #8 Duke vs Oregon State, which tips off at 3:00 p.m. and #5 Gonzaga vs Portland St, which tips off at 12:30 a.m. on Friday.
Heading into the matchup both teams post an undefeated record.
WVU sits at 4-0, following wins against Mount St. Mary, Pitt, Morehead St. and Penn earlier in the month. Purdue, following wins against Milwaukee, Austin Peay and Marquette, holds a 3-0 record.
West Virginia and Purdue have met a total of eight times in history, with Purdue holding the advantage 7-1. The last Mountaineer win against the Boilermakers came in 2011 with a 68-64 win at the Coliseum in Morgantown.
According to ESPN Analytics matchup predictor, WVU has a 7 percent advantage (53.5 percent to 46.5 percent) over the Boilermakers, as the Mountaineers are averaging 81.0 points per game on 57.3 percent shooting, while Purdue is putting up 74.0 points per game heading into the matchup.
However, the Mountaineers will have their hands full with the 7’4” Purdue center Jr. Zach Edey who is posting impressive averages this season, recording 20.7 points per game and 13.7 rebounds per game both team highs.
West Virginia’s leading scorer heading into the matchup is senior guard Erik Stevenson, who is posting a 14.0 points per game average.
