Mitchell off to an impressive start as a Mountaineer

MORGANTOWN —West Virginia University (WVU) senior Forward Tre Mitchell has been having an outstanding season for the Mountaineers in the first three games.

Mitchell was a transfer from Texas where he appeared in 24 games for the Longhorns, averaging 8.7 PPG and 4 RPG. 

Prior to that he played two seasons at UMass where he appeared in 44 games overall where his highest averages came in his So. Season averaging 18.8 PPG and 5.8 RPG in 2020-21. 

Heading closer to home, a native from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mitchell has been putting in the work, totaling averages of 14 PPG and 5 RPG on 68% shooting. 

In his first game for the Mountaineers against Mount St. Mary’s, they picked up a win 76-58 with 13 points and 3 rebounds tallied by Mitchell. 

Impressively, against Morehead State, Mitchell totaled 21 points and 6 boards on 80 percent shooting and 100 percent from the line, in a 75-57 win over the Eagles.

The Mountaineers currently notch a 3-0 record heading into their next matchup against Penn on Friday, November 18, 2022, who sit at 1-3. 

WVU will then cap off their November schedule against Purdue on Thursday, November 24, 2022, heading into their December schedule which begins on Saturday, December 3, 2022, against Xavier.
