Miller and Kimbrew named low medalists

MORGANTOWN—The Grafton High School golf team continued their winning ways last week as they move their regular season record to 9 and 0.

On Wednesday the Bearcats played at Mountainview Golf Course against University High and Preston. The Bearcats placed first with a team score of 164, University High was next with a 179 and Preston finished last with a score of 199.

Chris Miller continued to have a great sophomore year as he was the low medalist with a score of 38. Kolbe Kimbrew was only one stroke behind at 39 followed by Cabell Bolyard (43) and Caden Moore (44).

The Cats returned home to Tygart Lake on Thursday to host Bridgeport and Buckhannon-Upshur. The Cats finished first as they were 19 shots better than the Indians and 31 strokes better than the Bucs.

With a score of 39, Kimbrew was the low medalist for the match followed by Miller who shot a 40. Moore finished with a 42 and Bolyard returned to the clubhouse with a 47.

“Everyone continues to look good as we enter a busy week this week facing Morgantown, Bridgeport and University at the Pines, Preston, PB and Elkins at home and Fairmont Senior  and North Marion at home,” said Coach Lucas McCall. “We are looking really good for the Big 10 Championship coming up September 17 at our home course and have a good shot at the title this year. A special shout-out to Maggie Hurst, our number six golfer, who shot (55) 11 strokes below her average,” he concluded.
