This week’s Taylor County Student Athletes of the Week are proving that girls can play too!
Grafton High School’s (GHS) Mia Chambers and Taylor County Middle School’s (TCMS) Anna Harbison have been selected for the recognition this week.
Chambers is a multi-sport athlete who found herself benched for her senior year of basketball after tearing her ACL during summer conditioning.
Despite her injury, Chambers continued to be an active member of the team, attending practices and showing her support during games.
Now that basketball season has come to an end, Chambers has turned her focus to her softball team. Like basketball, she reports to every GHS softball practice with a positive attitude, and is participating as much as possible, working to get herself back into playing once she’s been medically cleared.
In addition, Chambers not only supports her softball team but the local youth teams, as well. Her love of the game began in the fifth grade, and she is happy to assist the younger players of the community, giving them batting and pitching lessons.
Through all the challenges she has been faced with, Chambers’ dedication to her teams and her passion for the game has remained unwavering.
Harbison is running track at TCMS for her final season, as next year she will make the transition from Knight to Bearcat.
Harbison is a hard worker who is also dedicated to her sport and team, always pushing herself to improve and encouraging her teammates.
During the Buckhannon Invitational, Harbison was a big contributor to her team’s second-place overall finish claiming four first-place finishes at the meet.
She excelled in the high jump recording a jump of 4’10”, and dashed passed the competition in the 200 meter to finish with a time of 30.24.
Harbison also earned first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 20.23, and assisted her relay team on their way to securing the top spot with a time of 58.68.
Harbison continuously proves herself as a fierce competitor and an outstanding teammate.
Congratulations to Mia and Anna for showing just what tough female competitors are made of and being named Taylor County Student Athlete of the Week!
