Manos Steering Committee gets down to business at Wednesday evening meeting

GRAFTON—The first topic to be discussed at Wednesday’s Manos meeting was the most pressing need of electricity.  Unfortunately, with the flooding of the Grafton City Building and fire department, Mayor Peggy Barney did not have an update.

The Manos Steering Committee was also told that the next meeting of the Grafton City Council will be postponed until July 23 or 24.  The Steering Committee will be on the agenda to give a Manos update.

Unleash Tygart’s Alex Reneman will also be putting together a business plan for the Manos that he hopes to share with the council.

Heather Hudson informed the group that she had set up Google file sharing for the committee, so that all files can be housed and accessed easily.

Hudson is also working on the outline/framework and action steps for the project.  Steps include the most basic such as an inventory of what the theatre has and will need.

Carol Harvey and Duretha Mayle will work on the what is needed for the theatre aspect and Brendan Gallagher will work on what is needed for the cinema aspect.

Tom Hart is looking for bids for the HVAC system.  He has been in contact with businesses but most are busy right now with fixing air conditioners and working on new builds.  If a business is interested in putting in a bid, please contact Tom Hart, at Espresso Yourself Coffee House, by phone at 304-709-2305.

Hart also said that downtown upholsterer, Tony Lewis, has offered to look at the seating to see if there is any way he can assist.

Elizabeth Satterfield updated the committee with a new grant opportunity. Satterfield will be working on filing for the grant by the due date of August 20.

This Thursday, Hart will meet with representatives from WVU Bad Buildings. He shared that they want to look at all of the buildings on Main Street, but are also very excited to see inside the Manos.

“They are very interested in working with Grafton,” he commented.

Duretha Mayle said that Theatre on Main will be planning a fall show in November, as well as a spring show in April.

“We are also planning two theatre workshops in the near future, one for high school students and one for adults,” she noted.

In addition, Jason Young and The Fearless Fools will be performing comedy skits at Espresso Yourself Coffee House on August 18, at 8:00 p.m.

It was reported that Young has reached out to Harvey and Mayle to do a comedy workshop with the community, early that same evening. More information on that is to come.

To hold theater lovers over until the Manos opens, Jason Young and The Rustic Mechanicals will be performing William Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors” at Buffalo Flats Artists Association, on July 22, at 7:00 p.m.
