Man injured with homemade bomb

TAYLOR COUNTY—A man was taken to the hospital after his homemade bomb detonated in his face.

According to Sheriff Terry Austin, the man, whose name has not been released yet, was attempting to rig the bomb to a door in his home, when it exploded, at approximately 6:30 p.m., on Friday.

The man suffered injuries to his face and eye, according to Austin. He added that the individual also suffered from some type of hearing loss, due to the explosion.

The victim was taken to Preston Memorial Hospital by a third party.

“People just don’t realize the danger of explosives,” shared Austin. “They go on the internet to get information to make these bombs, and then make mistakes.”

The incident is still under investigation by the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the West Virginia State Police, are aiding in the investigation.

More information will be released as it becomes available from the Sheriff’s Department.
