Local church institutes program to help the needy in the community

GRAFTON— Many organizations in Grafton are constantly striving to better the community and assist those in need. Recently, one local church has created a unique and anonymous way for individuals to both give and receive a little help.
The Church of the Covenant, located at 16 East Washington Street, has installed a Care and Share Box for the community to use. The box is located behind the church, beside the manse, where the Pastor’s office is located.
The project was spearheaded by church member, Martha McConnell and was her way of helping the church to reach out to members of the community beyond their congregation.
Within the Care and Share Box will be items such as, soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, brushes, chap stick and tissues, along with packets of hot cocoa and ramen noodles.
Church members reported that they have seen some activity at the Care and Share Box thus far, but are hoping even more citizens will begin to utilize the donation site.
“This is a good idea for you to show God’s love for others,” commented Randall Bolyard, on one the church’s Facebook post. “God will bless people who give to those people in need. God bless you all for your kind hearts. There needs to be more of this kind of love for those people in need.”
According to Pastor Casey Lieneman, all are welcome to the items in the box if they are needed, and any residents that are able to may stock the box with nonperishable items at any time.
He also revealed that a bin will be stationed in the church on a regular basis for members to drop donations in, and that the church will also keep its members updated on items that are needed the most in their bulletin.
Additionally, monetary donations are always welcome. Simply call the church at 304-265-1422 to arrange drop off, or mail a check to the aforementioned address with Care and Share Box written in the memo line and let McConnell take care of the shopping for you.
