BRIDGEPORT—Although the Grafton Bearcubs Midget football team was able to move the ball against the Bridgeport White Midgets on Sunday, they weren’t able to keep the Little Indians out of the end zone quite enough to secure the victory.
The Little Indians defeated the Bearcubs 43-13 at Wayne Jamison Field in Bridgeport, although many of the Bearcubs had great games in the effort.
Grafton running back Jarrett Blackurst had an outstanding game for the Bearcubs, rushing for 74 yards on just 10 carries and adding a touchdown. Quarterback Kaden Keener also provided excellent yardage on the ground, rushing for 59 yards on just 7 carries and a touchdown and providing an extra point as well. He also completed a pass to teammate Troy Weber for 32 yards. Adding to the Bearcubs’ rushing attack was Weber with five yards and Noah Armstrong with two yards.
On defense, Keener was once again was dominant as he tallied 16 tackles on the day. Nathanial Bailey and Weber each had seven, while Riley Humphries and Brayden White had six and five respectively. Blackhurst was credited with three tackles while Gavin Whiles and Cole Runner were each credited with two. Also aiding Grafton’s defense were Josh McIe, Jace McCoy, Carter Valentine, Jayson Peters, and Armstrong with tackles.
The Bearcubs’ Midget squad will have a bye week this week and then see action again on October 12, when they host Lewis County at McKinney Field in Grafton. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
