PRUNTYTOWN — The Taylor County Middle School Lady Knights Varsity Basketball team played their last home game this season, as the Belington Hawks came to Pruntytown to challenge the Lady Knights on March 29.
The JV Lady Knights started the evening in a defensive showdown against the Lady Hawks, in a low scoring game that tried both team’s defense.
The first quarter ended with the Lady knights holding a very narrow lead of 2-0, as halftime rolled around the score was still in the single digits with the Lady Knights still holding the lead 4-2.
The third quarter would see Lady Knight seventh grader Ali Wilfong drop two buckets to secure the final lead that led to the Lady Knights securing the victory of the Belington Lady Hawks with a final score of 10-7.
Wilfong led the team in scoring and clutch play with an overall four points on the night.
“I am extremely happy with the defense tonight. We were missing a few key players this game, but this team really pulled together and played a great game,” head coach Kelley Larew elaborated.
The Varsity Lady Knights put on yet another dominant performance this season.
The first quarter had the Lady Hawks in a superior position over the Lady Knights with a score of 6-4, but as the second half ended the Lady Knights found their footing and began a comeback as they entered halftime 15-11.
The Lady Knights would hold the Lady Hawks scoreless in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter began a scoring surge by the Knights, as they began to pull away to finally end the game with a score of 34-18.
Hadley Horne led the scoring against the Lady Hawks with nineteen points and Anna Harbison added an additional seven points.
This game finished up the home stretch for the Lady Knights. They will continue their season this week traveling to Lewis county to face off once again with the Lady Patriots of R.L. Bland on April 1.
