Lady Knights swat Hornets


GRAFTON—The Taylor County Middle School Lady Knights played another home contest on Monday night as they hosted the Hornets of East Fairmont. The Lady Knights dominated from the start on their way to a 49 to 27 victory.

The Lady Knights came out of the gate on fire as they outscored Fairmont 15 to 2 in the first quarter. The Knights then matched their first quarter point total in the second as they took a commanding 30 to 9 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Hornets came out inspired in the third as they won the quarter 12 to 10. The Knights took care of business in the final quarter to come away with the lop-sided win.

Meredith Maier led all scorers with 18 points in the contest. The remaining Knight points came from Alyssa Satterfield (8), Frederique Maloley (7), Sydney Friend (5), Amber Smith (4), Madison Mayle (2) and Mara Griffith (2).

The JV’s were also in action on Monday but they lost to the Hornets 29 to 7.

Neveah Swisher and Leah Jackson led the Knights with three points apiece followed by Ally Mayle with one point.

The Lady Knights will compete in their post season tournament this evening at West Fairmont. The results will be in next week’s edition of the Mountain Statesman.
