GRAFTON – The Taylor County Middle School (TCMS) Lady Knights softball program hosted Westwood Middle school of Morgantown this week, as the Lady Knights looked to grab their first win of the season.
The Lady Knights would take the field first, as the home team with Maddie Blair occupying the circle for TCMS. Blair was backed up by the strong Lady Knights defense.
The first half of the inning would see the nerves of the Lady Knights on edge, as West-wood was able to string together a surprising effort of hits and solid base running to force a couple of errors that would give Westwood a three-run lead after the first half of the opening inning.
The Lady Knights would rally in the bottom of the first off of a base clearing three run double smashed by starting first baseman Isabella Hayhurst.
Regrettably, that would be the last speck of offense from the Lady Knights.
The Westwood pitcher found her footing and would shut down any attempt at offense for the rest of the night.
After uneventful second, third and fourth innings, Westwood would pull ahead, going on a hitting spree that left the score 20-3, and the application of the 10-run mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Lady Knights their eighth loss of the season.
The TCMS Lady Knights will be in action today, Wednesday, April 27, as they travel to face Mountaineer Middle in Clarksburg.
