GRAFTON—Following a successful season that saw the Lady Knights finish 14-3 and runner-up in the 2022 Taylor County Tournament, recording an impressive win over Kasson 35-5 during the contest in their last campaign, the Lady Knights led by Head Coach Bobby Beltner have set expectations for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
Noting the team’s competitive nature and willingness to adapt, following the loss of their leading scorer and rebounder, the Lady Knights are looking to fill the void and continue to contribute to the success of the program.
“We lost a good group of eighth graders last season,” said Beltner.
The incoming eighth graders include Maddie Fryer, Ruthie Horne, Peyton Freeman, Bailey Murphy, Lydia Wildroudt, Bailey Satterfield and Peyton Stevens.
“We have a solid group of girls returning, if we can continue to improve, we should be competitive again,” said Beltner on the returning players.
The Lady Knights are featured by seventh graders Natalie Beltner, Paislee Freeman, Ciarra Spring, Arabella Jones, Jordan Cox, Victoria Drainer, Paige Whitehair, Taylor Bolyard and Ashley Smith.
Adding depth to the Lady Knights are sixth graders Regan Taylor, Gracie Fryer, Hailey Goodwin, Braelynn Jones, Kendall Frye, Emari Duckworth, and Kinleight Hutson.
The anticipation to follow-up last season isn’t the only thing on the Lady Knights’ minds, its continuing to improve as a team and layout the foundations for the future of the program.
Assisting Beltner on the coaching staff is Jaron Freeman, Kelley Larew and Eric Smith, who are committed to teaching the fundamentals of the game and instilling the importance of hard work and support to the players in preparing them for future athletics.
