Lady Knights rack up 22 runs in Morgantown

GRAFTON—The TCMS Lady Knights played a marathon high scoring game last night as they traveled to Morgantown to take on Trinity Christian in a showdown under the lights.

In a game that had an abnormal amount of offense on both sides of the ball, the game went into extra innings in a back-and-forth battle that would eventually lead to the Lady Knights defeat in a one run game.

The first inning would see a bevy of hits from both sides as the points were quickly racked up by both teams. This style of play would hold true throughout most of the game as what at times could be held as a dichotomy between pitching and base hits.

The third inning would see a base clearing triple by Lillie Crimm that would put the Lady Knights up by one 6-5.

The bottom of the third would see a flurry of offense by Trinity to retake the lead 8-5

The fourth inning would see back-to-back homers hit by Jeri Wolford and Chelsea Maller as the Lady Knights mounted a comeback after being down the previous inning to finish the fourth with the Lady Knights up 9-8.

The rest of the game would see a tit-for-tat between strikeouts and solid hits as eighth grade pitching sensation Lillie Crimm notched eighteen strikeouts for the Lady Knights, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Trinity bats at bay as they still managed to get plenty of knocks in the latter part of the game with a game winning base hit which scored run late in the eighth inning to take home the victory 22-21.

Head coach Joe Maller had this to say after the game. “We played a good six innings of ball. The problem is we had to play eight. Lillie pitched well and Ruth did a great job behind the plate, but we just had a lot of routine things we didn’t do right tonight. I think this game was an eye opener to some of the girls that we need to start making sure we do the little things correctly and quit letting teams get us into these shootout football type scoring games. They will bounce back strong because that is the kind of hearts they have. Super resilient girls that are going to be pumped to get a win against Barrackville on Wednesday.”

The Lady Knights will be hosting the Husky Pups of Barrackville this Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
