Lady Knights place second at Mountaineer Middle Tourney

CLARKSBURG—The Taylor County Middle School Lady Knights opened their season late last week, by competing in the Mountaineer Middle School preseason tournament.

The girls defeated South Harrison in the first round, but fell to Gilmer County in the championship game.

The TCMS girls scored early and often against South Harrison, as the Lady Knights took a 27—4 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Lady Knight scoring backed off in the second half, but it was still enough to come away with a 39—13 victory.

Madison Mayle led the team in scoring with 13 points, followed by Meredith Maier with 10.

The remaining scoring came from Jordan Niggemeyer (4), Alyssa Satterfield (4), Frederique Maloley (3), Sydney Friend (2), Mara Griffith (2) and Amber Smith (1).

In the championship game, the Lady Knights struggled scoring points in the first half and found themselves down 13 points at the half.

The Knights managed nine points in the third, but it was not enough as they went on to lose 40—18.

Maier led the offense with five points, followed by Maloley and Mayle with four points apiece.

The remaining Lady Knights in the scoring column were Friend (3) and Griffith (1).

The Lady Knights will be back in action this Thursday night, as they will face Lincoln on the road in Shinnston. The game is set to tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
