Lady Knights fall to Westwood, defeat Ritchie and Bridgeport


MORGANTOWN—The Taylor County Middle School Lady Knights continued their away portion of their schedule last Tuesday night, as they headed to Morgantown to take on Westwood Middle. The Knights’ bats stood silent until the third inning, but it was too late, as Westwood came away with a 9—6 win.

Addie Tucker and Amber Smith led the Lady Knights with two hits apiece.

The remaining Knight hits were recorded by Kaileigh Spiker, Jordan Niggemyer, Frederique Maloley and Madison Smith.

The TCMS runs were scored by Tucker (2), Niggemyer, Maloley, A. Smith and Eva Jones.

Maloley took the hill for the Knights in this contest. She allowed nine runs on six hitswith six strikeouts and 11 walks.

On Monday, the Knights finally were able to play a home contest, and the home field advantage really helped the Lady Knights, as they defeated Ritchie County 12—2.

Tucker and M. Smith led the Lady Knights with two hits on the night.

The rest of the hits were recorded by Niggemyer, Maloley, A. Smith and Jones.

The runs were scored by Tucker, Niggemyer (2), Maloley (2), A. Smith (2), M. Smith (2), Gracen Purkey (2) and Jones.

Maloley earned the win on the mound for TCMS, throwing all three innings for the Knights. She recorded five strikeouts, three walks and two hits in the shortened game.

The Knights stayed on the winning path on Wednesday night, when they hosted Bridgeport Middle School. The Lady Knights defeated the Lady Braves 9—8 in seven innings.

The Knights found themselves down 8—6 going into their last a bat. Spiker singled to start the 7th for TCMS, then used a couple of walks and a stolen base to pull within one run. Niggemyer and Maloley both walked for TCMS setting up the two-run winning single off the bat of Madison Smith. With the two RBI’s, the Knights pulled out the tough victory.

Niggemyer led the Knights at the plate with two hits, followed by Tucker, Spiker, Maloley, A. Smith, M. Smith and Anna Stottlemyer.

The TCMS runs were scored by Tucker (2), Spiker (2), Niggemyer (4) and Maloley.

In the contest Maloley had 13 strikeouts, only three walks and allowed 10 hits.

The Lady Knights will continue their home streak hosting RLB at the GHS softball field. The game is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
