Lady Knights baller recognized as Taylor County Athlete of the Week

This week’s Taylor County Athlete of the Week caught the attention of some fans in the stands during her debut season as a Lady Knight basketball player.

Taylor County Middle School’s sixth grader Paislee Freeman was selected to be a member of the Lady Knights’ program as starting point guard for the junior varsity program and stepped into her new role in a big way.

Nominated for the recognition by a member of the community that has had the opportunity to watch Freeman play and grow as an athlete of the sport, she referred to Freeman as an up-and-coming star.

From being fierce and feisty at playing for Taylor County Biddy League from a young age, against mostly male competitors, Freeman only continues to blossom as a strong basketball player at the middle school level.

A firecracker and exciting to watch as she explodes up the court, Freeman has a natural knack for the game and position, playing selfless ball, working well with her teammate and always looking to make a play to the open man.

Offensively, Freeman’s mid rang shot continues to improve, and her strength allows her to pass ahead to open teammates.

Throughout the season for the Lady Knights, she had several standout performances that boosted her team to victory in hard-fought close contests.

And while she may be petite in size, she also packs a punch defensively.

Quick on her feet and fearless, Freeman is not afraid to match up with taller opponents, never missing the opportunity to battle for the rebound underneath and, often times, was able to come away with the ball for her team.

Freeman is led by a true passion for the game that is evident when watching her play. Beyond her natural talent and the hard work she has put in to hone in on her skills over the years, Freeman’s positive attitude is a big part of what makes her great, always showing up ready and willing to learn, with a “never give up” mindset.

Even when faced with criticism or difficult opponents, Freeman never allowed herself to show defeat, keeping her focus on the game, rallying her teammates and always getting right back up.

And now that the Lady Knights’ season has ended, she continues to work of herself as a player, rather than taking an offseason, Freeman will be on the court throughout the summer as a member of the sixth grade North Central West Virginia Swish team.

Freeman will definitely be one to watch in the years to come, and we are excited to watch her excel.

Congratulations Paislee on being named Taylor County Athlete of the Week.
