GRAFTON—The Lady Bearcats found themselves splitting a double header with the Liberty Lady Mountaineers on Monday.
The Lady Cats started the first of the games strong when Aubree Collins ran in two on a single.
Grafton won the first inning 4-0, but both teams went scoreless in the second.
Entering the third, Liberty ran in one, before going into another scoreless inning for both teams in the fourth.
The fifth inning would see Grafton put up four big runs, going into the sixth with the 8-1 advantage.
Despite allowing the Lady Mountaineers to score four runs during that inning, with Charlee Johnson, Alexis Davis and Emma Kyle picking up RBIs to rally the comeback, Liberty fell short of Grafton.
The Lady Cats escaped the close game with a score of 9-7.
Fredrique Maloley took the win for the Lady Bearcats, allowing eight hits and seven runs over seven innings and sitting eight.
Grafton recorded 13 hits on the evening, with Collins, Jordan Niggemyer, Kaileigh Spiker and Amber Smith all connecting for multiple hits.
Gracen Purkey led the team with two stolen bases.
However, in the next matchup, the Lady Cats would not fare as well, with the Lady Mountaineers looking for revenge.
Grafton struggled to make it across Homeplate, going scoreless until the fourth inning, when Maloley and Collins earned the team’s only two runs of the contest.
Mia Chambers took the 10-2 loss for the Lady Cats, allowing 11 hits and ten runs over six innings, striking out four and walking one.
Hits for Grafton were recorded by Collins and Spiker.
