Lady Cats off to a promising start, overpowering Indians 8-4

GRAFTON— Grafton softball standout Frederique Maloney led the Lady Bearcats to an 8-4 victory over Bridgeport at home this week.
Maloney earned the team three hits, including an in the park homer, and as the team’s pitcher, took to the mound striking out ten Indian batters throughout the evening.
“Frederique pitched a great game,” commented head coach Tyler Cox. “Offensively, I thought we hit the ball better through the lineup than what we have been.”
Grafton really turned up the heat at the bottom of the sixth inning earning five runs.
Kayleigh Spiker went for a double and drove in two runs on the night, while Olivia Shaver added two runs of her own.
Not only were the Lady Cats precise with their batting, the team also gave a great defensive showing with the duo of Shaver and Jade Hall in the outfield.
“They made some great catches for us,” voiced Cox. “It is looking like it is going to be a promising season. We have a very talented and hardworking group of ladies.”
