Lady Bearcats look to make improvements after 2-0 loss to East

FAIRMONT— In an aggressive and physical game against the East Fairmont Lady Bees, the Lady Bearcat soccer team battled hard until the very end but ultimately came up short, dropping the contest to East with a score of 2-0, on Tuesday.

While the Lady Bees and Lady Bearcats were evenly matched, with 33:56 on the clock, Grafton committed their first foul of the game, resulting in a score for East.

Lady Bee Carlie Ice found the back of the net on a direct kick, putting her team on top 1-0.

“It was a long range shot in the middle third, and she placed the ball high over our keeper’s hands, just below the cross bar,” Isner recalled.

This would be the only goal scored by either team in the opening half.

From there, the contest would continue to be a competitive one with more back-and-forth action, boasting much of the same for the remainder of play.

As the contest wore on after the halftime break, the Lady Bees made a play that allowed them to pull ahead even further and secured their victory.

Taking advantage of an attack, the Lady Bees connected passes, finding Maddie Lott in open space.

After receiving the ball, Lott controlled it into the box and sent a nice shot to the back right of the Lady Bearcat goal.

“We must continue to work together and do the little things well and instill a collective team desire to win,” Isner voiced.

She said that the team will not be discouraged but will continue to work to improve in certain areas that will help them as the season progresses.

“Tactically, we must improve on our goal keeping, team defending, our ability to maintain possession of the ball, create and finish attacks,” added Isner.
