Lady Bearcats fall to Keyser in close contest


GRAFTON—The Grafton High School girls basketball team returned home after a long holiday break to host the Keyser Golden Tornados on Wednesday night at GHS. The Cats fell behind 8 to 0 early but bounced right back and gave Keyser all they could handle. The Cats come back fell a little short as they fall to Keyser 53 to 50.

After the first couple of minutes of play, the first quarter was played even as both team put 15 points on the score board. Keyser then took a two point advantage after the second quarter as they outscored GHS 14 to 12.

The Cats then won the second half of the contest as they outscored Keyser by one, but it was just a couple of baskets short as they go on to lose 53 to 50.

Bria Jacobs led the Lady Cats with 15 points followed by Meredith Maier with 12. The remaining GHS points were scored by Alyssa Satterfield (8), Bailey Toothman (4), Jocelyn Countryman (4), Fredrique Maloley (3), Tori Jackson (2) and Megan Kisner (2).

Kisner also led the team in assists with two on the evening.

Countryman led the Bearcats with eight rebounds in the contest and Jacobs led the Bearcat defense with four of the Cats 11 steals.

The Bearcat JV team was also in action as they fell to Keyser 51 to 25. The Bearcat points were scored by Shayla Poling (10), Sydney Friend (4), Amber Smith (4), Hailey Skiles (3), McKenzie Mayle (2) and Mia Chambers (2).

The Lady Cats will be back in action tonight as they travel to Buckhannon to take on the Lady Buccaneers. The JV will start at 5:45 p.m. and the varsity will start at 7:30 p.m.
