Koontz holds on to take first during the Bearcub’s latest brawl

BRIDGEPORT—Once again taking the Meadowbrook Mall by storm, the Grafton Youth Wrestling Club saw great success and dominated the competition, with six team members placing over the weekend during the Brawl at the Mall.

And it would be young Bearcub wrestler Rondo Koontz leading the way for the club, as he managed to strong arm his way to a first-place finish representing the 10U, 95 weight class.

“Rondo has worked so hard day in and day out,” commented assistant coach Thomas Davis. “He is a true leader on the mats at practice and always one of the hardest workers in the room.”

Following Koontz, and proving that girls can wrestle too were Maddison Barbe (10U HWT) and Clarissa Miller (10U 90). Barbe rounded out the day with a well-earned second-place finish, while Miller worked her way into third.

JW Nestor (10U 90) also represented the Cubs at the podium. He too took home a third-place finish in his respective class.

Rounding out the team’s winnings were Lucah Barbe (6U 50) and Ian Glaspell (10U HWT), who both earned respectable fourth-place finishes.

Bearcubs Gaige Glover, Jack Taylor, Bryson Swaney, Isaiah Glaspell, Abel Mitchell, Luke Knotts, Jason Austin, Bryson Snider, Landon Lynch, Garrett Poling and Brody Moats also hit the mats during the event, and showed a display of great athleticism and sportsmanship.

“We’re proud of everyone for the work they have been putting in,” Davis shared. “Practice, patience and persistence pays off, and this team is starting to see that.”
