Knights gain valuable experience

Noah Nestor locks up with his opponent during his second match at a tournament held at East Fairmont Middle School.

FAIRMONT—With a roster of only five, the Taylor County Middle School (TCMS) wrestling program traveled to East Fairmont Middle School (EFMS) last weekend to kick off their season with a duals-style tournament.

After a grueling day on the mats facing off against tough EFMS opponents, the Knights recorded several individual match wins, but unfortunately fell short of placing.

“Although we didn’t have anyone place, it was a great learning experience for the team,” commented head coach Kevin Efaw.

Despite not placing, Knights Noah Nestor (116), Jarrett Blackhurst (123), Javon Vanscoy (128) and Cash Nestor (145) went 3-0 on the day, while teammate Dylan Gutshall (135) went 1-2.

“The competition was tough, the season has been cut short and we have a small roster, but given the circumstances, the boys did well and will only improve from here,” Efaw voiced.

The TCMS Knights will be hitting the mats at home hosting a tournament on Friday, March 26 at 6:00 p.m.
